What is a high voltage probe?

High voltage passive probes are one of three types of analog passive probes, including general purpose and low capacitance passive voltage probes. There are also high voltage differential probes, a type of active probe. The difference between active and passive probes is that active probes need external power to function, whereas passive probes don't.

What is the function of a high voltage probe?

High voltage probes reduce input voltage to a level that's safe and measurable for a voltage divider circuit. Specifically, high voltage differential probes measure the difference in voltage between two non-ground-referenced test points. Alternately, single-ended high voltage passive probes take reliable ground-referenced high-voltage measurements

The 701944 High Voltage Passive Probe is a 100:1 passive probe for high voltage measurement up to 1000 Vrms.
