After splicing an extension fiber to an existing fiber, it is necessary to perform an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) measurement.
The OTDR operator is able to observe the splicing process as it takes place, typically some distance away.
On the OTDR display, appearance of the trace for the extension fiber beyond the splice indicates completion of the splice process.
The OTDR operator must wait until the display indicates that the splice is complete before performing the OTDR measurement.
The work completion notice function in the AQ7280 and AQ1210 alerts the user with a display indication and sound. The OTDR operator does not need to continually monitor the display and can perform other work until the splice is completed. This function reduces the working hours dedicated to splicing.
The user sets the notification function ON and places a check- point beyond the construction section.
The OTDR continuously monitors the checkpoint. Once a trace appears at the check point, it notifies the operator with a display indication and buzzer sound that the splice is complete.
