Why Doesn't WTViewer Communicate with my WT Series Power Meter via GPIB?

There are several items you will need to check and verify to solve this issue.
  1. Verify the GP-IB connection
Some instruments have a D/A output connector located next to the GP-IB connector. There have been some instances where users have connected the GP-IB cable to the D/A connector. Make sure you connect the GP-IB cable to the GP-IB connector.
  2. Set the instrument to GP-IB communication mode
For the PZ4000, WT1600, WT1800, WT3000 or WT500 instrument, set the instrument to GP-IB mode through the Remote Control menu. For the WT210/230, set the instrument to 488.2 mode using the SHIFT
    » OUTPUT menu.
Note: You can specify the GP-IB address on the instrument, but you will have to restart the instrument for the changes to take place.
  3. Verify the GP-IB Controller Address on the PC is "0"
If you have more than one GP-IB controller on your PC, please make sure you connect the WT power meter to the controller with the address GPIB0. The WTViewer will not communicate with any other controller address. The instrument may have any number address but the controller address must be GPIB0. You will also need to match the GP-IB address on the instrument with the GP-IB address in WTViewer.
  4. Verify that communication is compatible with controller program/software
Send the "*IDN?" command to the controller program/software to see if the instrument returns the correct instrument ID. If this is successful, the controller program/software will be able to communicate with WTViewer.
  5. Verify the GP-IB address on WTViewer matches the instrument
Once you have launched WTViewer and selected on-line mode, select GP-IB and specify the correct instrument address.
