How do Fiber Optic Switches Work?

To evaluate GE-PON systems used for FTTH networks, optical characteristics and IP traffic tests are performed. Since a GE-PON consists of OLTs and multiple ONUs, efficient measurement of multiple ports is required. Utilizing the multiple port AQ2200-4xx high speed optical switch makes it possible to build an efficient automated measurement system by distributing the signal in a custom test network. With the fiber optical switch module, a multi-fiber loss measurement system can be easily configured.

The AQ2200-411 OSW module is a space-saving optical switch featuring low insertion loss and superior switching reproducibility, and allows selection of 1 x 4 or 1 x 8 port configuration according to the application.
Moreover, the optical fiber type can also be selected between SMF(10/125µm) and MMF(50/125 µm, 62.5/125 µm), allowing a wide range of measuring systems to be built corresponding to the systems or devices used in optical public networks or optical LANs.

Overview:

Lack of reliable high-speed internet access in rural regions, due to complicated logistics and the considerable costs involved to extend land-based networks to these areas, has inspired a wave of next-generation applications that will provide greater accessibility and reliability. Making use of “space laser” networks, these revolutionary solutions can relay digital traffic via low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite systems to provide low-latency, high-speed broadband services to communities typically beyond the reach of standard wireless and fiber networks.
